Pressurize the fuel tank

Having issues with the fuel gauge and decided to buy new magnets after testing showed a constant 90 ohms (empty). I was reading the instructions for removing the baffle and float. Once everything is done, does the fuel tank need to be pressurized somehow or just reinsert the sending unit and it should fire back up?

Anyone? If I pull out the fuel sender, once I place it back in, should the boat fire right back up or is there something I need to do to pressurize the tank?

The system doesn't run under pressure. The pump(s) draw fuel to the carbs. In the manual, they talk about a pressure test... but that's just to test for leaks.

It should just start as normal. (Assuming everything is correct)

Dr. Honda,

Thanks for the response. One other question if you don't mind. I'm going to be replacing the magnets in the float. Since this is going to be sitting in gas constantly, do you have a recommendation for what I can use to secure the magnet to the float? I considered Loctite Marine Epoxy but not sure if there's something else I should use.

your problem is not the magnet, but the float itself. The old floats are susceptible to the new fuel additives and alcohol in the gasoline. The new style floats are molded plastic and have nice new magnets in them. Just pop the baffle out, carefully pry off the bottom screen, replace the float, and reassemble. The baffle is labeled in case you get your hoses mixed up. You might have to clean off some of the grime caked onto the base, but the letters are there.
