Possible bad stator or switch box in 210 merc

I'm leaning towards either a bad stator, or switch box in my 210 merc... what is the best way to test both of these? Mye even be the coil pack.... or spark plug wire, as it follows the wire, not spark plug. Is there a 'how to?' ? If not, if someone could explain what I do, I could document the entire procedure, and post it for others to use in the future.

I'm just looking to test each of these parts right now - not replace them.

I haven't cracked open the service manual to look at it... just curious if there's a better way than re-inventing the wheel.

I can't get above 4400 RPM ever... and I just bought this boat.

Thanks!

Just to confirm, I assume you mean STATOR, not strator, yes? If so, I can edit your topic listing.

Please don't start a new thread for your old topic. AND... if you are going to... at least include the info.

OK... the "How too" is in the manual.

BUT....................

If you have only one plug that isn't firing... then it's most likely a coil pack, or the wires connecting to it. The reasons are...

1) If you have a bad trigger, 2 plugs (or more) will be dead.

2) If you have a bad switch box... then most likely, an entire bank will be dead.

3) If you have a bad stator... then you may have spark below 2500 RPM, or above... OR... a bank will be dead.

My bad about the new thread - figured that it might get more attention. And I meant stator, not strator... typo. As for the coil pack, is there an easy way to test the coil pack? And is there a part # I can look up to purchase one? Are they expensive?

Thanks

Starter too? lol... now you're making typo's too. ;)

I'm going to rip apart the strator this weekend to see if anything needs replacing... at the very least change the oil. I don't know much about the stator though... and I didn't even think about looking at the starter... lol... but it does struggle starting up from cold sometimes. ;)

checking the coil is easy. Swap it with one that fires well, and see if the weak spark follows the coil, or stays in the same set of wires.

Also... you can just check it with a meter.

Between the terminals should be .02-.04 ohms.

Between the tower (where the spark wire goes) and either of the terminals should be 800-1000 ohms
