this weekend i changed out the 3/32 oil injection lines and pulled the carbs off my portside 787 in my 1999 challenger. changing the lines was easy unough with new yellow 3/32 tygon line from o'reillys . but when it came to the carbs, thats another story!!! the screws were soooooo tight that i ended up almost completely stripping the small screw which holds the retainer for the seat, and i stripped one of the four screws for the cover on the diaphram side. but heres the deal, once inside the carb everything looked great, even the in carb. filter looked like new. literally no gunk or grime!!!! before tear down these carbs ran great, do i need to do a pop off test if all i do is clean and put new screws in? i might order new needle and seats if i have to get a kit to get the screws. does anyone know the size of the 2 screws i mentioned?

If the engine was running OK... why did you remove the carbs?

I always check the pop-off, and it's an important thing to know. BUT... if it was running ok... and you didn't change the spring... then no, you don't have to check it.

As far as the screws... to disassemble the carbs... you need to use a hand impact. It's the only way to get them apart without damaging the screws.

Finally.. the screws don't come in a "Kit" or with any of the parts. You have to order them separately.

osdparts.com for the screws, you can get complete internal or external sets for your carbs at a decent price with great shipping times.

i know "if it ain't broke don't fix it" but i had to remove the carbs in order to see what i was doing with the oil injection lines, and i just purchased the boat last year and don't know if they have ever been cleaned or rebuilt. also i use the boat on lake superior, fairly long trips looking for private remote beaches. so i can't afford to have any misfortune especially with the wife and three kids on board. and now i guess i need a hand impact to.... i have only had my own garage for 7 years and the list of tools never ends
