I spent a little time reading up on wear ring replacement before I dove in tonight and I have an item I did not see for those replacing your plastic ring in a plastic housing, 02-03.

Take the whole unit out in one piece minus the reverse gate, split the housing and nozzle to remove the bilge tubes on top to access the two ring retainer bolts. the wear ring should pop out after removing the retainer screws.

get a 1/8 inch drill bit and measure the depth of the retainer screws and mark it off on the drill bit for depth. Insert your new ring and tap lightly until snug. Drill a starter hole as deep as the screw once you've set the ring in place for each of the retainer screws. Do this and then screw in each screw until snug at the same time spinning your impeller. If you start to get resistance, go back and drill a little more (just a hair) and try again till you have the screws snug and they are not warping the shape of the ring. I have read here in a few places where the poster said they had snugness and the ring was bulging in the upper and lower parts. This is the result of not prepping the plastic to receive the retainer screws.

Well all in all it went well. My old ring had chunks taken out of it. Probably from rocks or whatever. I am looking forward to a better run this weekend.

Wear ring

I was just here yesterday and found a post that listed all of the tools and steps to replacing a wear ring. Now I can't find it after numerous searches. Trying avoid the 2 wk wait and $400+ dealer price tag.

Tools you need:

12mm Allen
Impeller tool (resembles pump shaft/different for GTX & RXP)
Bench vice
3 foot piece of strong pipe to slip the 12mm Allen into for use as pry bar
13mm socket with extension for venturi (and pump support pm GTX)
17mm socket with extension for pump housing
Pair of 10mm open wrenches, sockets or ratchet wrenches
Small Allen for pump cone removal
Smaller Allen for trim (RXP)
Blue and/or Red loctite
Anti-seize (optional)
Sea Doo Bearing Grease (only if needed)

That was maybe what you saw?

For the boat you will need a 6MM Hex key to remove the reverse gate mount which also holds the the venturi to the pump housing. I just did this, very easy IMHO.

400? For a wear ring replacement ? Should only be 65$ including labor...what is $400 for?

$400- gee that's a bargain it usually costs me $500.

What for you ask?

Well for me (the first 2 times) they told me I needed a new impeller and housing as well. I don't use that service shop anymore and plan to try and replace my own wear ring this time.
