My son and i bought a 2001 seadoo chalanger 1800 with merc 240 efi a month ago. Seemed to be ok on test drive but after 2 rides the engine idles ok but dies at wot and takes 20 minutes to restart (starter seems to disengage ) after 20 min or so it will re start I think we do not have the ability to repair, and no mechanic avaiable If any one in sarasota florida area can help or at least advise would appreciate, other wise take our loss and sell really nice boat for very little

Check throttle position sensor TPS. There are many posts here about, several are mine. If you think it is bad, double check. Hold onto your pants if you have to replace it.

interesting, i feel it is fuel or electrical never though it could be lack of air. worth a try thanks for the advice

Thanks for your suggestion. Since we are not able to find parts, seems difficult to try anything other than the minimal new plugs, clean filters, and increase air to bilge area. If you know a source of parts I would appreciate the suggestion. Maybe I need a premium member ship. Very close to listing boat for sale, don't know if i can maintain this craft.

why can't you find parts? Mercurys are still being worked on by tons of shops and especially in Florida. It sounds like you need to test/troubleshoot the TPS (throttle position sensor) or possibly the port side temp sensor but I would guess it's your TPS. If you decide
sell it let me know!

the one person within 50 miles that worked on this motor is very hesitant, shops in the west florida Tampa area are very few between. While we have some basic skills, changing plugs, replace battery, change fuel filters something like a tps test is beyond us. Yes selling for 5K which is 1K lower than my cost a month ago.. My Loss, some one much more capable than me will enjoy it. Going on E-Bay this weekend

Find the serial number on your engine (mine has a tag on the port side head as well as a tag on the flywheel cover) and then go to this website (also posted in many other places on this forum if you search) and use your serial number to figure out your part numbers.

Once you have your part number search for it on google or eBay or Amazon! There hasn't been a part I haven't been able to find yet.

I also just changed my port side temp sensor and believe it made a difference in how much my engine was smoking at an idle. If you read the tag on the new sensor it specifically says temperature sending unit and fuel management - makes perfect sense it can drastically effect the way the engine runs.

I ohmed the port side out yesterday and it showed around 9900 ohms around 80 degrees ambient so that one is fine for NOW. I forgot to ohm the other side but ill do that soon.

first off any Mercury certified repair shop should be able to repair this boat try to talk to the mechanic and let them know its a merc engine and not a seadoo engine this engine is almost the same as merc 2 stroke outboard engines there is no reason a certified mercury dealer cant work on this boat.

had a similar problem last year dr Honda told me about the emergency lanyards switch going bad try to disconnect it from its harness should look like this

once unluged take the boat out see if its shutting you off still

I hope this isint it but you need to know what the compression of the cylinders are i know from experience that this engine will still work with a broken piston and a hole in the side of the engine lol this should be cheep and ez
