outboard boat question

I have a stupid question. I've been told there are no stupid questions, only stupid people. So I guess I'm a stupid person with a question.

I have an I/O boat so know a little bit about those. My question is about the outboard boats I see that have a large engine mounted in the center, then a small engine mounted off to the left. What is that 2nd engine for? I was just guessing that it is for trooling? How does the boat compensate so it doesn't drive in circles?

Some people would be too embarrassed to ask, but I lost all self respect years ago so I'm asking :dupe:

Yep... the second engine is for trolling, or for power restricted lakes. (some lakes have a HP limit)

As far as driving in circles... it's not an issue since it's low power.
