My 2001, 210hp V6.....to me it acts like it's out of time. Hard to start and no power, will only do 2500rpm. All of the plugs are receiving fire. I pulled off the wires one by one while its idling and heard no difference except for when I pulled each of the middle plugs on each side the engine dies. How do you time one of these engines? Is the rev limiter in the switchboxes?

Pulling spark plug wires at idle does not show much. Check it under load, with someone watching the tach. Better to use spark testers. BTW- did you find any leaky spark plug boots? lol

Have you pulled the spark plugs and looked at them? They should all look the same- light brown and dry. Are they the recommended NGK brand? While the spark plugs are out, a compression test is in order. Should be done at WOT, all plugs out, on trailer (not in the water). Hoping for 135psi x6.

Usually, the only box you need to worry about is the throttle guardian. It would be in the driver's helm box.

Best to follow the Merc service book to set ignition timing.
