If I missed this in another thread, I'm sorry, but a search of the subject turned up nothing. I have a 2004 Islandia and was able to change 4 of the plugs relatively easily. The bottom two look to be impossible. Any tricks to make this job easier would be appreciated.

No tricks on my Utopia, just some cursing. I'm not sure of the engine compartment set-up on the Islandia, but the Uboat has removable sides to the engine housing that make getting at things lower on the engine much easier.

Aaron:cheers:

The Islandia's engine has no side curtains. The lower plugs sit at the bottom of the engine and there is virtually now way to get a wrench on them. I can barely get my hand to the lower left plug. I think I will have to remove the rails that run along the back of the engine. That's what the local Sea Doo dealer told me. I'll keep trying. Meanwhile, if anyone thinks of anything, beer's on me!

try doing a compression test on that motor and boat !!! :reddevil: . i think you have to move the injector not sure its been a while since i have seen a omax , and im glad for that . how do your plugs look ? its not often you have to do plugs on that motor and from what i remeber they are very expensive plugs

The first four looked pretty bad. They were working fine, just missing a little at WOT. Then the other day, it ran fine until we headed in, then as I applied throttle, the engine bogged a little and I noticed a 500 RPM drop. Motor still ran, WOT 4800 RPM instead of 5300. I thought a plug change would help the problem. Local dealer suggested it might need a new battery as the optimax is sensitive to low batteries. The one in the boat now looks to be the original. They also suggested looking at the alternator belt as it may be slipping. I will, but I hate to leave a job unifininshed. Ahhhh...the joys of boat ownership...I was warned:cheers:

check your fuel water seperator filter if you have one if you dont then your asking for $$$ problems . this motor should have a VST tank ' vapor seperator tank .on the side of the engine . it will have a hand full of fuel lines and a wire or two going in it . it houses the high pressure fuel pump , the hp pump has a very fine mesh filter on it . they do require cleaning or replacing time to time , they may look clean but there not . it may look like a coplicated task but take your time and study it . it will have about 8 phillips head screws hold the top on the tank , it has a o-ring up there and it may stretch upon removal but i will get to that fix . you have some crimped hose clamps on there , dont cut them if you take a screw driver you can pop the hoses off and back on with out removing the clamp . once you have the tank off and apart twist the filter on the bottom and it will come off ,take your favortie brew of carb cleaner and go to town , blow thru with your mouth before and after and you will see the difference . also clean out your tank while its off . as for the o-ring if its stretched way beyond use the lay it in the groove of the tank and on the straight long side cut it , finish laying what you can in there and super glue helps big time with this , and when you get to where you excess is cut it just a mm or so beyond what you need and glue it in place , it will not leak . your fuel filter on this motor can not be neglected . pm me for a phone number and i can walk you thru the steps .
