Only runs when start button held on

I'm helping someone with over long distance with a 95 GTX.

Nothing changed, it just started doing this.

He tried a new mpem, start/stop switch and same results, so he called me.

It will stay running as long as you hold the start button down and the starter is still spinning the whole time. Let go and it stalls out.

Only thing I can think of is the stator ground is intermittent.

Any ideas?

This was kind of common on the older skis. But the 95 would have a legit MPEM.

I would start with double checking everything in the electrical box. But, it sounds like his replacement MPEM is bad.
