Oil Tank question

My oil tank was leaking around the pickup/sending unit. I cleaned up and put a bead of silicone around it. Is that an ok fix? Also there is no marking on the tank of where full is. I know on the filler neck it says there is a 2 gallon capacity but can i over fill and was that why it was leaking?

It depends on if the silicone that you used is oil compatible. Blue is normally for water, red is normally good for both, black is designed for oil. But read the container to be sure.
