Just bought a 2001 GSX/RFI and had it on the lake 20 min when 12v low alarm chased me back to the dock. Looking around the engine compartment chasing fuses I noticed oil in bilge. Found the problem....seam on oil tank failed with oil oozing out when filled up. Anybody ever repaired HDPE tanks with some sort of solvent? I bought a replacement tank but would like to repair old one as a back-up.

This is a common issue, I just replaced my tank. When I researched a way to repair my old oil tank I did come across a guy who used a glue that was found at home depot. If I remember right I did a google for "seedoo oil tank leak repair" .. In the end I talked myself out of it and just bought a new tank.

There is a process that welds the plastic tank. I now of a local guy here...look in your yellow pages for plastic welder. The process is almost like glue sticks that are used on plastic...similar but much different material.

hdpe. milk jugs. i used a propane torch and pieces of milk jug. be real quik with the torch. just touch it with the heat and start feeding milk jug like it is welding rod.

Milk jugs.....very intersting method. :bigear:

I'd buy a new tank and put that in - THEN I would experiment with the old tank using that method. With some of the crazy pounding we put these boats through, it couldn't hurt to have a backup tank anyway in case it leaks. ;)

I used "plastic epoxy" on mine...found it at Home Depot. It comes in a hypodermic needle looking thing that squirts out the right amount of the epoxy. Just mix it up and smear it on. Make sure you clean the cracked area real good first using brake parts cleaner, and rough-up the crack with a dremel tool before patching.

Solder gun with a smearing tip will work too with plastic milk jug stris or plastic zip ties

similar as pic shown. works great
