Oil reservoir fill level

When adding oil to my 97 Speedster oil reservoir I couldn't see a max fill line or a full mark. The sensor that tells you the oil level is low sits at about the halfway point. Is it ok to fill the reservoir past this sensor? Was worried about oil leaking where this sensor is inserted into the reservoir.

If it's pouring out the fill neck... that's too much. LOL.

Sorry... couldn't resist.

It's up to you on the fill. I normally never "Fill" my oil tank, just because, if there is an issue... that makes more to clean up. Also, the seals/grommets do weep. Not to mention... a full oil tank is several tanks of fuel. So... I will normally make it a round 3/4 full... and then put more in when it's down around 1/4 tank.

IMO, it depends on how much riding you intend on doing before returning to the marina but a good rule of thumb might be more than enough to cover using a full fuel tank (60 gallons fuel to 1 gallon of oil should be adequate) you'll have difficulty burning more than that in an outing.

I like to keep my oil tank just happy enough to keep the light from coming on for two reasons:
1) If a leak occurs, less waste occurs
2) I get to test my oil lamp sensor more often.
