oil reservoir check valve not checking

So I noticed last time out, there was oil in the water that drained from my bilge. I looked around and determined that my check valve isn't checking since the oil was also on top of the reservoir. Is there a cheap replacement I can get from the local auto store, or any way to repair it?

McMaster Carr probably has one that would work, but the OEM is only 8.00. Personally I would just run without it until you can get a new one.

So while I was inspecting the check valve.. I cut the zip ties that were tying the check valve hose to the loom because it looked a little tight. I loosely secured it back. Today I go out to fire it up and the oil lamp is on. I look at the oil reservoir and it's almost empty. There was about 1 1/2 Gal in there the other day. Have I been running this boat without oil? Will the engine and hoses hold 1+ gal in the circuit? Fixin to go pressure test and look for a leak.

I doubt it but IDK for sure.

Is there oil in the bilge?, if not then it's leaking into the crankcase somewhere.....really bad seals??

does it really smoke if you start it?

Yes there's some oil in the bilge near the plug, but it's mostly water... and some on the driveway, but nowhere near a gallon. There's no oil pooling around the oil lines though. And yes, it did smoke... but I just ran it for a second.

I did the pressure test and the reservoir is leaking just a tad at the sensor grommet. But that's well above the minimum mark (where the oil is now.)

Doing some rough math... 20ft of 1/4 lines would be 2/10 Gal. I'm guessing I need to check the lines that go at the bottom of the rotary valve since this is might explain the oil in the bilge at the plug, but none on the MAG side.

I can't find a leak in the lines at the rotary valves... starters didn't have oil on top of them either. It's looking like the cases must have drank about 8/10 of a gallon after freeing up the check valve. Or 4/10 of a gallon per engine. Does that sound more realistic?

Also just cranked it again and no smoke.

The oil is still in the reservoir. I have to assume that I've been running without oil.. and when I freed up the check valve, the 2 cases drank about 1/2 gallon each. Let me know if you have an alternate theory.

Is it even possible to run without oil for ~3 hours?

I doubt it has been without oil as engine don't so well with it. But I bet it has been at a less than optimal amount.

I'm guess and you are hoping it was a sufficient amount for the safety if the engine.
