i lost my 720 in 97 GTI engine to an intermittant oil pump. didn't work-premix gas-starts working-smoke like hell-drain premix-roast a rod bearing. a parts guy and yamaha (mostly) mech near me says get rid of ALL oil pumps and premix at 40 to 1. plugs cost less than cranks. i am doing it with this one when i get it going. does anybody have any concurring or dissenting thoughts?

From what I read oil injection is very good to have but it allso requires maintenance. if you do not take care of it you may have problems. Premix is ok allso many people do it without any problems. and if you get a whole lot of smoke I would think you mixed it way to rich. or your carbs are runing to rich a little smoke is normal at idel but not alot of smoke.

The injectors that seadoo have are variable rate pumps. They deliver oil at a different rate based on rpm's. If you pre-mix at say 40:1 than it gets 40:1 all the time. The variable rate doesn't use as much oil and will save you plugs too. I (personal opinion) would prefer to use the injector as the seadoo is designed for it. Pre mix is kinda old school and is costly over time. I would rather buy a new injector pump than remove the pump and premix. Also the injector tank needs to be left on the machine as it lubricates the rotary valve gear in the engine cases.Follow the large hose going to the crank cases under the carbs...you'll see what I mean.

Oil Bath

Karl,

I was debating the same thing when I break in the new SBT engine. They say to delete the injection, but the manual is clear about the oil bath for the crank. I was just going to let it run very rich for a while until I felt confident with the injector system. (I have already replaced the little hoses going to the injectors and the exceedingly pricey oil filter) :ack:

Any input for an easier way of testing the system than what the manual dictates?
