Oil out the jet

I have a 1994 SPX and it runs fine, starts fine, everything seems good but when it first starts up there is a ton of smoke and oil drips if it is out of the water. After it runs in the water for a while the smoke goes away but the excess oil bothers me, should it?

As far as I know, 2 cycles are notorious for this. They are horrible and my 03 smokes sometimes at start up, but as for the excess oil I guess it is normal for that year but I really don't know for sure so wait for others to chime in. Just remember they say 2 cycles are horrible for the environment and I guess this would be why.
