so i went rideing today and had a blast till i was out in the swamp in louisiana and the oil line that goes from the resivoir to the pump, broke off the pump eventually causing my enigine to die and filling my bilge FULL of oil... i tried draining the remainding oil in the resivoir into a bottle then into the fuel tank to premix the fuel to make it back to dock (about 5 miles) but the battery went dead trying to start it again... i drifted in the swamp with 3 gators eye balling me literally haha untill a boat finally came along after about an hour and towed me in... ive cleaned out my bilge and thankfully got my engine running again. ive test rode it (with the premix) and it runs great.... i was very sceptical about rideing it like that just because i wasnt sure if premixing was sufficiant enough or if the injection system fed oil to other places as well.... is it ok for me to premix with my resivoir jus empty? or is there other things i need to do befor i premix.... and what would be a good premix ratio? ill buy a new pump (almost $200) when i can but im broke from buying the ski! haha but i still wanna ride!!! thanks, greg

Premix 40:1.
Need to leave oil in the tank for the rotary oil bath.

Going premix, you will get more than enough lubrication at lower rpm.
40:1 is what the oil pump puts out at wide open throttle.
You will use more oil and will need to change plugs a little more often, but that beats the cost of a new motor that died due to a failure in the oil injection system.
You will have to put up with more smoke idling also.
I am running Amsoil Interceptor as my premix.
Since switching to Amsoil, I have had alot less smoke!

rotary oil bath? hmmm... so... theres two lines comeing out the bottom of the resivoir correct? one to the oil pump and the other to "rotary bath"? anyway, so all i need to do is plug the line going to the oil pump, and keep oil in the resivoir and i should be good? im still new to working on these engines so all info in greatly apriciated. (i am pretty machanically inclined though) :)

your right
one line to oil pump
one line to rotary bath
there is another line that is the rotary bath return connected to the to of the tank on the sending unit

plug the one going to the pump and leave the rest
pull the pump, pull out the drive, install block off plate, plug the small fittinga at the intake.

I have been assuming that you are working on the ski in your avantar??

yup, thats the ski ive been workin on. so if i plug the line to the oil pump, do i really have to take the oil pump off and put the blocker plate on? cause i plan on putting a new oil pump on eventually, jus not right now. can i leave the pump there? i mean... its already bad so what more damage could it do jus chillin there? thanks alot for the info btw... oh and yes, theres the "return"? line going to the top of the tank also
:)

Magneto?....

No, you need to remove the pump and take out the shaft. Then you can put the pump back on.

The shaft if teflon but it can still wreck havoc in your windings of the magneto and pick up coil if this material splinters off into it.

Two small allen head bolts on the front of the mag cover can pull it off. Use a mirror to see if needed (I do). But, you need to remove the shaft.

thanks seadoosnipe... so... after i take the injector pump off... the shaft pulls right out? then i put the cover plate where the pump was correct? where can i buy the cover plate? they sell it in "parts" of this website? thanks much, greg

so i took the ski to the shop for a compression test and it looked pretty good. i had asked that if i premix, could i jus take my oil pump off, remove the shaft, and put the oil pump back on (rather than buying the plate) and he said that should be fine. i know the cover plate is cheep but since its mostly for looks and im a tight ass with money, is it ok to do this?

hahaha. i would but i still owe the bank money from buying the ski!! and already so many problems with it :( but i dont regret it.

save eating 2 lunches and get yourself the block off,, get the old gear out of there and the pump.. much cleaner to work on

optimum premix ratio for towing skiers?

Hi Guys,

just to add to the thread, is there a better pre mix ratio than 40:1 for towing behind my 1996 GTX, It tends to foul plugs and wont start after been sitting on the beach for half and hour, even with a good blow out after towing. I bought it for towing skiers and biscuits, so am i better off converting back to injector pump?

need a bigger pitch impellor.
An impellor that will increase bottom end performance.

thanks Tim,

A couple of people have also suggested to disable the Rave valve on the muffler that controls the water injection into the exhaust, as slow speed running under load can cause an excessive amount of water to build up in the expansion chamber. Any truth to this?

not sure, Paul....than what, when you decide to run at fast speed, remove the seat, plug the Rave together, then, your ready to go...., then what happens, if you forget to plug back in.

If it's fouling the plugs, you might have leaking needles & seats in the carbs. Also, if you go to a lower pitched impeller, you will be able to get skiers up a lot quicker. The best choice is a Swirl by Skat-Trak.

I would not remove the water regulater from the water box that injects water to the pipe. every manual i have ever read says it can cause serious damage. Mine was leaking last year as I noticed a 300 rpm drop and my pipe was ice cold all the time. I guess the water was just poring into the pipe. Replaced the regulator and all is good again.
