Hi newb here. There was quite a bit of oil in the hull of my 96 GTX so after investigating I found one of the oil lines going into the intake ruptured- big time. It was still attached just blown out one side of hose. What should I replace it with so it doesn't happen again? Is this a common issue? The engine ran fine last time I rode it but its hard to believe since the engine was deprived of all that oil. I think I'll check compression and if thats ok maybe its ok? Its the 650X engine. Been a good machine overall.

Oil line.....

Compression test would be the first thing I did, along with an inspection of the spark plugs.

As for the frequency of this encounter,........I've never heard someone say that happened to them for as long as I've been here. I'd replace both oiler lines from the injection pump to the manifold with the proper lines.

The lines are 480mm lines with a special type clamp to hold them tight. I bet you could use the small electrica ties to hold them in place. If you want to get the proper fix, you'll need to look at this link..... http://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche.com/seadooforums/Seadoo_oem/Seadoo_PWC.asp?Type=13&A=39&B=6 part #30 and #31. Pretty cheap, around $5.00 bucks to replace..........

Thanks for the background help.

Ive read up on the gray fuel line issue so I think I'll take care of them and clean carbs at the same time. Is there anything else I should be doing as long as everything is torn apart? Rotary valve maintenance?

1996 gtx

Just so you know,
If your ski is a 1996 GTX it will have a twin carb 787. If your GTX has a twin carb 650 (657) then it is a 1995.
DAWG

It must be a 1995 then. Its the bright lime green color with the 657X engine. The carbs havent been rebuilt or ever touched and the fuel line are grey. The only work as far as I know was the dealer recall for the fuel tank. It doesn't have a lot of hours on it.

So any other preventative maintenance as long as its in the warm shop? valve system, cooling system? Shifter linkage adjustment? impeller shaft bearings etc??

Well i found that both small oil lines had rotted and split open (see picture). The fuel lines don't seem gummy on the inside and look good but the oil lines are brittle and cracked.:ack: I see there is a similar recent post where someone else found the same thing.

I tested the compression and the front cylinder read 150 and the back 140. I think this is ok? Less than 10% variation between?

I'm going to get some better tubing to use- maybe braid reinforced instead of the cheap vinyl base it appears to be. Oh, I broke part of the brass fitting of the rotary valve cover. Maybe I'll drill it out and make a new fitting or how much do the covers go for? I see mine has some wear lines in it from the valve plate. Does it seem normal? I'll try this picture here.

the manifolds' good. Braided line, might give you problem, bending it with such a short piece. If you have enuf "barb", should be ok with a zip-tie, or what you said you were gonna do.
