I haveng a 1999 sportster 1800 with twin 717s. the problem is this. last year after winterizing over the winter, i noticed oil in the bottom of the boat under one engines side. I had the local mech. look at it and he said it was an oil line and he claimed to have fixed it. this year over the winter i noticed oil again in the bottom of the boat on the same side. i top off the oil tank every fall and it is now down to about half so i know its not the fogging oil draining out. too much oil for that. my question is... is it posible that it is a seal of some sort that is leaking as the boat sits over the winter or just a leaking oil line. is this really a big deal or not... last year it didnt seem to leak oil once the boat was put in the first time of the season and not just sitting. any ideas would be great.

My port side motor is an SBT rebuild I installed in 2009. On the outboard side there is what looks like a freeze plug in the block. This is the rotary shaft bearing cover. Mine has leaked oil since I installed the motor. There is an oil line right above it to a 1/4" L fitting into the block. I was sure for 2 years that fitting must be the source of the leak; it isn't. The cover that is leaking must be driven out from inside with the rotary valve shaft removed. I just live with the leak.
