Oil Injector re-install

How difficult would it be to reinstall the oil injector for a 97 challenger 1800? I have been told that I can have the parts that were removed, but it sounded like there may be a broken arm or something. I have looked through the micro fiche and can't seem to figure out what part could be broken. Can someone explain to me why the oil injector would have been removed?

I am fairly handy, but haven't done much engine work. I am looking forward to personally tackling all issues that arise with this boat. Once I get the boat, I will be certain to share all of my successes and setbacks.

Any idea how they blocked the "nipples" on the engine? If they just used caps it should be ok. I have replaced an oil pump with the engine in the boat, it's a bit of a PITA due to space and having to use a mirror, but is certainly possible. One thing I'm not certain about, is whether or not they would have removed the oil pump shaft when they put the block off kit on?

Definitely snag the parts if you can, hopefully the oil tank is still in there!

I dunno about broken parts, the injection oiling system is quite robust when properly maintained and I'm confident you will enjoy the dramatic cost savings in 2-stroke oil.

Make sure it's set up properly, be sure of every aspect of this before refuling with straight gasoline. Find a copy of the BRP factory service manual for your engine, not only used in boats but also in skis, this manual you will quickly grow to adore! :)

Yes, I would definitely re-install the oil injection system, when properly maintained it's a very reliable system. Not only will you save money but there will be less smoke, fewer fouled spark plugs, since you have the parts there is really no good reason not to re-install it.

The "broken arm" the previous owned is most likely the arm on the oil injection pump. Nick Minnetonka4me can fix you up with a good used pump or possibly just the pump arm.

Here's a picture of the oil pump, it's not your model but yours is similar.

Thanks for all the input and picture. I will likely run on premix for the summer and then reinstall the oil injection system next winter. Our immediate intent is to spend some time on the water with friends and family. How long should I expect this effort to take? I suspect I will spend a lot of time upside down for this. I am already looking forward to making improvements to this boat. Thanks in advance for your assistance.
