Oil injector pump control levers just hanging!

I was replacing my '96 Speedster's port starter (again) when I noticed that the oil pump control lever was not connected to the cable and just hanging down. I was able to reseat the spring and connect the cable to the control lever. Checked the starboard engine and the same thing was happening. I was able to fix that connection as well (by feel only!!).

My question is how this might have happened and how in the world the boat continued to work! What would be the symptoms of the lever hanging straight down rather than being controlled by the carbs?

Thanks,
Jim

They are design like that. If the cable break, they will go full oil so you dont burn your engine. Get new plugs while you are out ofthe water, the old one are going to be black.

Thanks!! I was hoping that was the case. So, does the cable pay out (lever goes down) as you increase the throttle/rpms?
