Oil in water

Is it common for oil residue to be in the drained water on land once pulled out by trailer? Also in the run off while washing.

You don't say what boat you have. But on my old challenger the plug that came out of the oil reservoir was more or less below the surface of the oil when full. Anyway it weeped oil the entire time. I eventually only kept it half full so the oil was lower than the opening.

No, it is not common. Look for a leak in the tank and or around the oil lines.
