oil in hull?

I haven't been on the board in a few weeks. Work comes first. During this time my ski just sat. It had an elevated stance to it. I had the trailer jack run up pretty high. well I'm headed to the lake in the morning and I was checking things out. The hull had fresh oil in it back where the bailers are. Where should I start looking? I used a mirror and looked at the bottom of the oil tank and it did not seem to have aleak. Looked under the engine the best I could but really couldn't see anything. Is this a common problem? I'm taking tools and oil to the lake and will keep an eye on the oil. If the light comes on is it an immediate problem or does it have a safety built into it> I appreciate all of the expert advice I have gotten in the past. I just don't want to have a melt down. Thanks TP

I would check all the oil lines coming from the injector tank and the grommet that holds the lines to the injector. Sometimes the lines will have a small crack that would allow oil to run out. Check it good so it isn't the injector lines that could cause a seizure if keeps oil from the engine injector pump.

Karl, I assume this is the tank that has a red plastic double fitting coming out of it. I noticed it had a rubber gasket under the fitting. That was the first place I looked. It didn't seem to be coming from there but I could be wrong. Seems like I should be able to feel a good amount of oil if that was the culprete. I'm sure it's simple . How do I go about fixing this if it is the problem. can I empty the tank and buy the gasket? would a dealer carry this gasket or have to order it? Karl thanks for the quick reply. I am running back and forth trying to get loaded. Our first real outing with the ski. TP:ack:

You need to get one from the dealer if it is the problem. I would be sure to find the leak first to be sure it won't hurt then engine if you run it. You could use paper towels and lay them in place to see where it is dripping from too.

Have a good day tomorrow and keep us posted.

Karl thats my problem , I can't find a drip at all. This happened by it sitting for 2 weeks. I claened the heck out of it this evening and looked really good but could not find the source. I will keep a close watch on the oil level and take plenty with me. Is there any place under the engine it could come from? I used the search forum and read where someone said their tank had seperated. I guess it could be getting hard and have a leak. I don't have a dealer that I know of around here . I'll talk to some of the locals and find a good shop to have it checked out. I got all the oil out and cleaned it up with the purple castrol . Maybe I can spot the leak in the morning. It seems to be coming from the front of the ski so I'd think it is realted to the oil tank.

I had a similar leak in my 1997 challenger and it wound up being the grommet let the oil just seep down the hose...I did the same thing with the purple stuff, and finally found it. I had no sign of the leak but it drove me nuts to have oil in a other wise clean hull.

That grommet can be misleading. I'd change it in any case since it will leak after several years in service.....if you are cheap, you could swap the top grommet with the bottom one since they are the same.

But more than likely you have a tube near the bottom of the engine that is hardened and cracking. This will create a leak that is slow but deliberate. And it will drive you crazy because it is hard to see.

This thread might help you get ideads of where to look - starting with the two oil hoses
