Ok guys, i have been reading many posts about the great oil debate seadoo vs quicksilver.. i want to do as you suggested stick with one. as i am looking for oil im wondering if you can tell me what average price is? i have found seadoo xp-s for $43 gallon and xp for $25. i was wondering if this good price? whats the range on the quicksilver? also how many gallons should i be prepared to buy? i live 3 miles from lake erie so plan to be out 2 -3 times a week.

thanks...

and the countdown to spring is onnnn:cheers:

The price here in Florida will not be the same as in your neck of the woods. That price seems about right on average. I would start out with a gallon and see how much you really get out on the water. If you need more, then go get more. Some people here on the forum use a couple gallons a season with lots of use.

The weather here is in the 80's and water temp is low 70's... Yea, I'll be out wave jumping tomorrow.

You lucky *** couple gallons is all? someone told me i would use a gallon of oil to every 3 tanks of gas....

my rfi holds 15gal
xp holds 12 or 10 i think

I just got off the phone with a buddy of mine from Miami, thats in Ohio somewhere for a while...I had to rub in the weather to him too...

Start with a gallon and spend moreon oil later. Buy some extra spark plugs and some silicone sprayand WD-40 for after your ride to protect all the metal parts. Use your money wisely instead of stocking up on just lots of oil for now. :)

oh ya its in 30's, lake is ice cold..but im looking at wetsuits so i can get out in 2-3 weeks......oh ok...i was looking on ebay and they have single gallons, and cases of 3, figured if i could save on shipping if i knew how much i would need. my gsx is almost full of oil..not sure of the xp... I bought a 10pk of NGK BR8ES plugs. i got some wd already. what kind of silicon oil? also is it recommended to change the jet pump oil?

Yes, change the jet pump oil if you want something to do... and be safe it is clean. You have the manual and it isn't that bad of a job to do. If you get a good deal on oil, buy it. It won't go bad. I buy 4 stroke oil by the case for my 4-Tec. I also run my 200speedster year round here in Florida.

For silicone spray get the cheap stuff at Walmarts.Look at the ingredients, silicone spray is all the same.Just the color on the can is more expensive.

ok thanks for the advice!!! i was scared there for a min when i heard i would burn a gallon of $50 oil in 3 tanks of gas..they also told me to expect to get like 10GPH outta of these ski's how accurate is that?
00 GSX-RFI

You might be able to see the specs in the manual toward the back of the manual. It rates the consumption at full throttle. In reality you always vary the throttle. so it is giving you the worse case senerial.

Karl

i use it, in hopes of it repel'n the salt water away from key componants...carb linkage, pump assy linkage/bolts..etc, also help from corrosion settl'n in...

ugh the manual off this site for the 2000 GSX RFI is missing the technical specifications page =(

Silicone spray?

Silicone spray is about the best lubricant that provides a barrier against moisture. Use it liberally.

I have the 787 in my Challenger and I use about 2 gallons a season. I run mostly weekends but can't give any kind of average. I live on the water so I go when I want to. I rarely run just WOT. I use the boat mostly for my two girls to tube and kneeboard behind. So, gas and oil lasts well.

You spoke about oil. I have been using the Quicksilver oil for a couple years now. I have inspected my piston and plugs regularly and I give it a clean bill of health. I also check to make sure my oil pump is in sync with my carbs.

The price difference is about $10-$15 bucks. I didn't choose Quicksilver because of price, it was availbility. The nearest Seadoo dealer is about 2 hours away.

Your performance based on the manual, if you do have the Limited with the 951cc, you'll see about 14 GPH usage at WOT for about 1 hour and 2 minutes. If you have the GSX RFI, it is powered by the 787cc and will be a bit more efficient on fuel. Consuming 11 GPH for a run time of 1 hour and 22 minutes.

ahhhh ok, after some digging i do have the GSX Limited not the GSX RFI. i havnt looked to see what the local shops carry for oil yet, as i only have 1 seadoo shop within 25 miles. i have been looking at oil on ebay. i plan on riding alot because i live on lake erie. I was scared someone had said plan on going through gallon of oil every 2-3 tanks of fuel.... =) and at 50$ a gallong for the seadoo synthetic could get rather pricy and if that was the case i was going to buy bulk from ebay, but the consensous on here seems to be ill probably only use 2-3 a season.. hopefully which i can start soon!! just got my year dock pass =)

oils

For my 96 seadoo xp with the 787 rotax it calles for Full Synthetic i use Quicksilver you can usually get it at walmart in illinois for $32 a gallon which is dirt chep. For the jet pump i stopped buying the seadoo jet pump oil and started using Mobil Full synthetic 75w-90 and i used to have the rattle with the cone and since i started using that the noise is gone.

 Well see you in the water!

hmm i will have to check my local walmart :-) i can get sea-doo full syn for $46.00 gallon at local seadoo shop...actually going to do my jet pump this weekend, thanks for the tip on that oil :hurray:

I'm using Amsoil Interceptor.
I am premixing and have the oil pumps blocked off.
I am getting it for about $28 for a gallon, but I get it at store cost.....
