Oil and Water in exhaust

Hey guys,

Need a little input...

I just cranked up the boat for the first time this year in the driveway and got a decent amount of water and grey oil/water mix out of the left engine and a little black oil out of the right. It took me a few minutes to get them each started but they idled okay...the left engine idled a little high.

I thought I had gotten all the water out of the engines before I stored it but apparently didn't get it all out. Any idea if I have caused damage or need to do any major repair work or if this is a normal occurrence?

Thanks in advance for your help...this is my first full year with the boat and the first time having it sit over a winter break.

I can't say for sure, but it's probably normal. It's impossible to get all the water out when you winterize, that's why you need to use anti-freeze. As for the oil it's probably just a combination of fogging oil and injector oil. As the engines age injector oil will seep past the crank seals and accumulate in the crankcase, it should clear out as you run it.

I didn't use antifreeze because it was in a heated garage over the winter. I'll take it out for a run here soon and see how it goes. I've heard I should also take a spare set of spark plugs.

Thanks for the reply!

You are fine if you were an garage. Those water boxes always hold some water in them. I keep mine in a heated Pole Barn set @ 50 all winter. All I do is foging oil and stable. Hook the boat up to a hose and flush it out some while running. Your idle is always higher out of the water. New plugs are must each year for the 2 smokers.
