Oil 951

I use Lucas (from Academy Sports), it just needs to be full synthetic and API rated, NOT TWC. One thing to remember if you change brands you need to clean the old oil out, oil brands don't mix well. There are some rated for snowmobiles that will work too...so I have read.

why cant it be twc

25 years ago TWC-3 Likely was a different designation. I've never been a boater. :) Might havae been mostly for outboard engines... I don't know. :D As you can see this oil meets or exceeds API-TC which is all one needs to know. I called Lucas oil on this before I started using it and had an interesting conversation. Since I worked in a lube oil additives plant I know a bit about this stuff. :) You can run this or in a 951 full synthetic might make you feel better. Just because oil is snythetic doesn't make it better than a blend, it will just cost more. :)

I started a thread a while back on switching injection oils without flushing the systems. Myself and another poster had a pretty good list with no issues. Good luck whatever you choose.

Stolen from Mikidymac:
You can run any oil in your ski but it just will not run for very long. The SeaDoo's are a different animal than the other skis. They make more horsepower per cc than the others, run more compression and run a rotary valve and thus require a different oil. These engines are running at their max output from the factory and need better lubrication than a TCW oil can provide. The TCW is more of an outboard oil that will see fewer rpm's and does not need to burn as clean because they do not have exhaust valves like the 787 and larger seadoos. You can get the seadoo oil shipped for free if you buy three gallons or more so the price is not much different. You have a high performance ski and need to feed it good oil to keep it alive.

They say the same thing about certain motorcycle owners. The cheapest thing about a BMW motorcycle is the owner.
It’s an expensive hobby so I don’t really worry about the oil and I only go through a couple gallons the entire summer.

Lucas Full Synthetic is $30 per gallon, SD is $70. To me it is not about affordability. I can afford to pay $75 for a Big Mac, I just don't.

What it really boils down to is "if people can read." The designation is on the lable.
I guy I know said "it's just oil". He used the cheapest oil Walmart had for his 200 hp Evinrude. Much to my surprise, a year later, it got a death rattle. I am sure it was a coincidence.

That's why they don't allow hearsay at a trial. LOL I know all the rednecks that live in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama ain't ponying up for the BIG $$ oil. LOL When I do look at someone's ski for repair, not very often, I never aski about the oil nor do I care. :D

Our plant manufactured the additives that are in the oils we buy as consumers. People in Opeartions made the product, the chemists in the lab that tested and figured out ways to keep the product in spec. It was common knowledge what the products were capable of and customers that bought the products for their oil line. Once per years corporate would come down and give us the "state of the company" and it's challenges. It really mattered whether a competitor could or could not get the right numbers for the tests to be able to put that designation on their product lable. Once that was accomplished market share was lost due to the new competitor. What's on the label is all you need to know. That product passed.

API-TC is almost a given now on all PWC oils. So much so that Quick Silver doesn't even list it. Oil is light years ahead of where it was in the 1990's. Regular dinosaur oil can go 30k miles without a change but they won't tell you that. Keep buying that synthetic for your cars and trucks even though you don't need it. They love it!! :D

Next time I’m in need of Some advice I’m going to title the thread what kind of oil should I run in my seadoo. I love these oil threads though

Nobody ever changes their mind though. I know people that love Shell Rotella oil and I'll bet they even use it for cooking. LOL They put it in everything and swear buy it. Facts don't matter and engines can't read. :D
