I have been working on my challenger 1800 for couple years now, ive learned lots of do's and dont's. problem i seem to be having now is with a newer set of carbs i bought for starbort engine. the old ones had got corroded up the butterflies wouldnt close. anyway the new carbs look almost identical and still had the plastic cap on the high speed adj. when i took of the caps they were all but about an 1/8 of a turn from the bottom, after disasembing and cleaning i found the main jets were 145"s the ones in the old were 142.5 I used the older jets. a
after installing i started out turned out 1.5 turns like the other set of carbs. running way rich. kept working in the needle all the way to bottom out still seems rich.
My question i guess is has any one else seen this ? different series of carb or somthing.
Thanks

Do the new carburetors have accelerator pumps? If they do they do have different jets, you should be able to compensate by leaning out the LS needle, the HS should be all the way in.

Did you check the pilot jet? Did you check the needle/seat size? Did you check the pop-off?

yes there is an accelerator pump, i had ordered another used set before with out the pump thinking i could swap it over. i change my mind after words. the pop off pressure was set pretty much 32psi on all four carbs. one was around 45 but was on the set im not having a problem with. as for pilot jet i guess thats the smaller one. i did not remove it i just made sure it was clean and not clogged, needle and seat i checked for air leakage i didnt look for size?
I might try swapping the pair from one engine to the other and make sure its not somthing else causing the stalling and somtimes backfireing
