I'm getting ready to install my rebuilt jet pumps and I was looking the driveshaft splines over and I noticed that they bolth have o rings in the tapered grove area anyway I took one of them off and it looks pretty crapy. I was wondering if this is something I have to order from sbt or can I just pick up one up at a local hardware store. I'm guessing they seal the impeller boot but I'm not sure I was looking through the shop manual in the instilation of the pump and nothing was mentioned on them.any thoughts? Thanks!

Please post a pic. Before I give an answer, I want to make sure I know where it's at.

This O ring is on both shafts in the same spot and this is my first time taking the pumps off. also another weird thing is that the pre owner never installed the impeller boots don't know if that is significant to this issue. thanks for looking at it for me!

That doesn`t belong there. I think the PO put those there bc he didn`t have the OEM boot/seal.

That would make sense because I couldnt find anything in the shop manual diagram that shows any o ring. Thanks for the input! I had skat trak send me some new boots when I had my impellers rebuilt so I will take those o rings off and use the boots.

It's funny as I tear into this boat I'm finding that the Pre owner did a lot of repairs that seem to be half a#*ed.
I'm a little on the OCD side and do everything by the book or by the advise you guys give me so all the stuff I'm finding is driving me nuts!

:lols: read the opening statement in my build thread and you`ll see what I was faced with. The PO (was a good friend) thought Aero 303 took care of the whole boat! he never looke under the hatch while underway. But I`m calling him a liar that he wasn`t aware of the 12+ water leaks and cavitation issue... lesson learned, absolutely!!!

I hear you on that one. I have found several things that were not up to spec on my boat, as well. At least I haven't had all the problems Andy had with His boat.

OK...

If it's an OEM SeaDoo impeller... it should have a cone seal.

If it's an aftermarket impeller... then the O-ring CAN be right. Some of the early impellers used an O-ring or 2, to fill in the gap, and keep grease in the splines.

I reckon so given it`s a 1995 vessel, not sure how old the aftermarket impeller would be or when the impeller was purchased/installed.

Toolanddie, can ya post a pic of the impeller?

Its an aftermarket Skat Trak I actually called them a few weeks back and told them I needed boots for my 95 speedster so they sent me new ones free but they didn't mention any O rings should I call them back and ask about the issue?

Yep... you can see the groove for the cone seal. The impellers that used O-rings are smooth in the bore.

Thanks for for figuring that out for me! Boots it is. I guess the PO screwed up! that would prob explain why there was no grease on the splines and why they seemed a little rusty. Oh well I'll make it right.

Thanks for helping me guys don't know what I would do without this site.

but that also happens with the boots as well. over time the grease gets forced out by water pressure and hence the rust... normal maintenance takes care of that. it`s also a good idea to check the drive shaft bumpers and wear ring/impeller and pump oil condition during normal PM...

True I will keep an eye on it thanks!

One quick question how do I find your build thread I was going to check it out after you mentioned it but I don't know how to find it?

lol, click on the link in my sig... :) the blue highlighted letters...

What a mess great job on your build! My boat seems to be mechanically sound just a little neglected the PO had it at a marina so it sat in the water and out in the sun for the most part but not in saltwater man that realy seemed to do a number on your boat. My engine bay is a real sh*t show i dont think he ever cleaned it and I had to remove most of my decals and polish out the gel coat looks halfway decent. Anyway nice job good read!
