Not turning over?

Hi there. I have a 99 GTX needing a new wear ring as the current one is pretty shredded. My season is pretty much over here in Canada so I was just planning on winterizing it and replacing the wear ring when I had time. The problem is all of a sudden I can't get the ski started, it tries to turn over maybe once or twice and then just stops. Made me think bad battery so charged that up and no difference, got it going once with enough choke but didn't let it run for long so hard to say. Now I put 2 together and if the wear ring is truly that bad it is likely preventing the impeller from spinning and therefore the engine not turning over. Sound about right? is there anything wrong with just removing the pump housing and running it without for the meantime?

Pull the plugs and turn it over by hand .. should turn easily ... checks for / will reveal any binding in the engine or pump ??

I just want to winterize it quickly. Have the entire pump assembly out waiting for impeller key. The shaft is just lose. Would it be the end of the world to run it in order to run antifreeze or will it flop around too much?

You have an electric drill? Get a wire coat hanger, cut a 2-ft straight section out, put it in the drill, press the trigger, and see what happens. [spoiler / danger / warning: unless suported, it will immedately go of off center and not just flop, but with force, whip around, flailing and destroying anything in its path! so stand back!] bottom line, not the end of the world, but IMHO possibly the end of your boat..
Better - either remove the drive shaft completely - or - just put the pump back in temporarily, to hold the rear end of the driveshaft in place, while you run the engine.

Thanks. After looking at the driveshaft I came to that conclusion as well. Doesn't look hard to pop the c clamp off and slide it out so will do that.

Found my bearings in my pump are completely shot. Wasnt a drop of fluid in the cone. Going to make it a winter project
