I just bought my first Seadoo, a 2001 GTI.

I just had it winterized by a small business near me in Northern Virginia, hoping I could do it myself next winter. I am absorbing a lot of information in, learning a lot from knowing nothing a few weeks ago. I still have a few questions. I tried to read up the most I could before posting this though.

  • How do I check the jet pump oil; how do I drain it; How do I fill it; what seals do I need to replace; Where do I buy the seals; and how do I pressure test it?
  • It is setup as a gas/oil mixture engine. The guy I bought it from said run 50:1 and the repair tech said run 40:1. Which one? Does it really make that big of a difference?
  • I want to purchase Hydroturf mats. My "foot wells" have a stamped texture in the fiberglass. Do I need to sand or prepare this or do anything special? Also, is the 3M or the Cement better.
  • Any secret to remove those brownish watermarks? I tried 50:50 water to vinegar as well as SimpleGreen.

Thanks for any help!

Item 2 below: Does it still have the injector system?

Or is there a block off plate, with lines still going down to the middle of the motor, to lube the Rotary Induction gears?

This will help with the ratio question.

And, to clean the hull, there are a number of marine cleaners available, that I have seen advertised.

The pump is completely gone, but the oil is still used to lube the rotary gears.

I have also seen, as well as tried many cleaners. I was more asking the best in your/others experience because the two I used were worthless :(

Sometimes it is impossible to get those brown watermarks off the hull....esp if the previous onwer let them build up over the years without ever washing it. My seadoo has a black hull but maguires or starbrite hull cleaner have both done wonders on my bayliner. Do a forum search for 'hull cleaner' and you should get some ideas as to what other people are using.

I would check any type of boat store or marina. I dont recall what the stuff was called that my brother used but it was for boats/marine and it worked quite well with a scrub brush to remove a LOT of that crap. I think it came in a small milk carton type of box and was a powder if I remember correctly.

My SPX is set up as premix as well. The oil res and lines were removed and caps put on the injectors. There is a line filled with oil that runs from the back to the front of the engine that is filled with oil to lube the rotary valve. 50:1 is common 2 stroke ratio, 40:1 wont hurt anything. This summer I ran 40:1 and tried 45:1 a few tanks to see if there was a difference and from what I could tell there was none.
