so i bought a 2007 speedster 150 and love it so far, BUT I have a problem. Insight is greatly appreciated.

When I got the boat underway the first time it started with long single beeps sporadically, specially when in chop. I discovered both cables were very lose and tightened them, so it was power related. The beeps stopped.

Now the cluster does not read anything. No gas, codes, RPMs, speed, etc, nothing. It seems to be getting power as it reads "welcome" and the display areas show the number 8 on all displays.

Is there a way to reset the cluster after a power related issue? Are there cluster fuses? Could I have fried the cluster or control board with the battery issue mentioned above? Is there a major reset I can try?

Thank you in advance!!!

The mechanics on here can give you a better answer, but it is my understanding that on issues like this, a dealer (or someone with BUDS or Candoo) can determine and fix the problem.

My uneducated guess is that your issue is with the cluster itself, or the cluster needs to be re-flashed to re-marry it to the ECU. Could be the ECU, but since everything else is running properly, I would look at other options first.

I have the same boat, 2007 Speedster 150. I have, in the past year, replaced both my gauge cluster and ECU. These clusters suck. It dont take much to get them to fail. There is no reset for them. If 2 beeps are heard when the key is engaged on the DESS post and the engine starts the cluster is married to the ECU. Check/clean all of the connectors, look for corrosion. There are two fuse boxes, one near the engine and one near the cluster. If it really is a bad cluster I doubt it can be fixed. Having a Candoo scanner for these boats help.

Hmmm, sounds like NOT an inexpensive fix. It was working when I bought it but the baterry cables were super lose and I dint notice it so they made false contact for a couple of hours while tubing. Is there a better deal than about $500 ysed for these clysters? Does anyone fix them?

Thanks for the lind responses!

If the engine was run without the battery connected, the voltage likely went higher than it should have and may have damaged the cluster. Besides it's obvious use of providing power when the engine is off, the battery also serves to stabilize the voltage when it's running. I know its not good news but if you only lost the cluster and not the ECU as a result you might consider yourself lucky.

I paid 650 for the cluster. 700 for the ECU. Both worked a little. ECU would shut the engine down and it would not start back up for a couple of hours, of course one never knew when it would happen. Cluster display just faded away, even the "new" cluster is not that bright. Eliminate a connection or wire problem first. I have had weird problems from low batteries. I dont think loose battery cables would cause the cluster to fail.

So the sporadic single long beep is back. The cluster looks dead with zero light or readings on it. The boat starts and operates normally otherwise. The beep drives me crazy and not being able to see gas guage is an issue.

So do you guys think i should clean all connectors and if nothing happens I should get a new cluster? Should I get a used Ebay one or get a new one? What is a good source for parts for these boats?

Separate issue. Can the shift cable be lubricated or do I need a new one if it's really hard to shift between F-N-R?

The beeps are warnings like low fuel. Replacing the cluster won’t stop it. I could not find a used cluster. Had trouble finding a new one, ordered it from 2 places then found out they could not get it.

If the cluster needs replaced, I would suggest getting a new one instead of a used one. Stinks because it is expensive, but you'll be happier in the long run.

does it look the same? my guess is it is different, but i do not know if it will work in your boat.

shift cable: could be 3 things. the cable itself, the bucket on the back of your boat, or possibly the shift quadrant is adjusted too tightly. this is something you are going to want to figure out and fix. i had this problem about the second time i used my boat. bad cable in my case. it was stuck in forward as i was coming in to dock. i reefed on it so hard, i bent the cable and ran into the dock. fortunately in my case i wasn't going fast and there was little damage to anything except my ego.

I would have someone with diagnostic program hook up and see what codes you are throwing. The no gas gauge / no RPM is indicative of an unmarried cluster, which can be fixed with BUDS. The no speed / no number thing is strange. It is far cheaper to get someone to read codes than to purchase a new cluster however. As far as the shift cable, I would just get a new one. They are cheap and the install is easy. I tried lubricating mine and it was a lot of mess for a little result.

204471378 is the ONLY gauge cluster that will work on a 2007 Speedster. It does NOT need to be flashed but needs to be married. An unmarried cluster will not let the boat start, but an unplugged cluster will let the boat start. A Sea-Doo 2006 GTX has most of the same parts as your boat, ie: ECU. The major difference between the 2006 GTX and the 2007 Speedster is the boat has a VCM and the ski does not.
