So I took my 99 SK out for Memorial weekend here in AZ at lake pleasant. We were heading to the back cove when I felt the wheel totally give out... For about 45 seconds I was a bit bummed as I had my wife's sister and her new fiance out from TX and we were 10 mins into our lake day. Well, thank god for dual engines. I was able to totally steer the boat by manipulating the engines all day long. I was even able to *almost* load the boat back up on my trailer at the ramp, even on a busy weekend. lol Just needed a slight correction a few feet out from trailer. Anyway, if your steering goes out....dont give up...just enjoy the rest of the weekend and sit back and watch people give you weird looks at you fly by with no hands on the wheel....ever. ;) And yes, I was totally safe and stayed waaay back from people while doing this.

Anyway, now I need to figure out what happened. Cheers.

I've heard of people steering with engine thrust. But... never tried it myself.

Keep us posted on what you find.

That is how I steer the big boat at low speeds... center the rudders and use the transmissions to drive it like a tank... never touching the wheel. :)
