no power 97 xp

went to the lake today. Fresh set of plugs and my ski started right up. Rode it for awhile and rolled it over. After that it took a little cranking to grt it running. Throughtout the day seemed to take longer cranking time and giving it gas to get it running.
It would run great one minute then sound and run like it was lacking power or miss firing. I did noticed that when I hit a good wake it would just instantly run good and take off.
Towards the end of the day the engine seemed hot and smelt like fuel in the hull. I did notice the the intake grate was missing today.We rode it anyway. Would the grate affect anything or does that just keep things out of the impeller?

Thanks everyone for your help! This is my first ski and Im starting to wounder if I bought a bad one. Hope its just easy fixes.

hey...the grate helps deflect float'n objects from getting sucked up into the pump, as far as your ski, did you just purchase it, history of ski? Since it rolled, you can take black cover off of intake, and remove the screen, to spray it out wit hcarb cleaner, since it rolled, gas/oil can be trapped, restricting air flow..If just acquired, I'd go thru fuel system..lines,filter, carbs....:cheers:also, check compression, 150psi is good

Thanks, Im going to take the intake apart today and go through the fuel system. Have not checked the filter yet either.
