Let me start by saying this site has solved so many problems for me already! Now i have a fuel problem as far as I can tell. I've done more work than riding so far this summer! I just rebuilt my top end because I had a rave break off in the cylinder and messed up my piston so finally I got it back together and when i tried to fire it up I had a fuel problem that I never had before. I blew air into a line from the back carb because there was no sign of fuel and it blew through the filter and tank and then fuel came flowing fine so i put the line back on and it ran fine on the hose so I went to the lake last weekend and it ran good, keep in mind I only putted around mostly trying to break it in.
Then after about an hour and a half I could feel it dying out not as much power and I let off the throttle and it died on me leaving me a long swim back with it. Ive put new plugs in and it still wont fire so tomorrow after I get off work I am going to replace all the gray hose with black and clean the on/reserve switch, but is there anything else? Should I have free flowing fuel at the carbs out of the lines when it is just sitting and not running?:stupid:

hey...whether its in water, or on a hose, once the ski fires up, and all settings/adjustments are made/good, it should idle, rev, come back to idle, all day, til you run out of gas or pull the landyard/hit kill button. Have'n the grey lines still, you really need to start from tank, and replace everything to the carbs, then if they havn't been done, rebuild them....

They were rebuilt at the beginning of the year here before i bought it, previous owner gave me the reciept so i'll do the lines tonight.

Thanks

You will (I predict) find a "boat load" of gluey scum in the carb screens.
This is why she won't run.

And the scum came from the Gray lines.

WELL I REPLACES ALL THE LINES AND THE FILTERS WERE FILFTHY AND GOT THOSE CLEANED . MY PROBLEM THOUGH IS THE NEW RAVE I USED WHEN I REBUILT MY TOP END HIT THE PISTON AND TORE IT UP. I TRIMMED IT BACK AND I THOUGHT IT WAS FAR ENOUGH WHEN IT WAS BOLTED ON THE CYLINDER IT HAD PLENTY OR SO I THOUGHT! aNY WAY DOES ANYONE KNOW THE CHEAPEST PLACE TO GET A CYLINDER SLEEVED AND A NEW PISTON FOR JUST THE ONE SIDE MY OTHER SEEMS TO BE FINE AND CAN YOU TRIM A RAVE BACK TOO FAR? I WANT TO MAKE SURE IT NEVER HAPPENS AGAIN.

Ok here is what I found: On the 1996 GSX Model # 5620 with a 787 engine, stock configuration RAVE valve guillotine has a minimum clearance of 0.5mm (.020 in.) to the cylinder bore, measured at the center line of the cylinder. On the 787 engine, only a first over size is available that is 0.25mm(0.10in.).The guillotine will have a minimum clearance of 0.375mm(0.15in.) with the cylinder bore. This is the minimum clearance the guillotine should be used with. Less clearance will require reworking of the guillotine to achieve proper clearance and radius.
Ok, we are on the same page... as a direct quote from the manual. you can not cut the stem of the RAVE valve as the guillotine radius and length is what must be modified. The stem and bellows will stay the same.( if you cut the stem you limit the travel of the RAVE valve, that's not the goal here)
When the RAVE valve is reworked you must keep checking measurements to have the clearance. I hope this helps you with your rebuild. Let me know If you need more info, or help.
