No Fuel after carb cleaning

Had the bogg down blues for a while. Bit the bullet, replaced fuelines, filters, fixed gas gauge while at it.

Took carb apart per some instructions found here. Carb filter was disgusting. I cleaned it really well. sprayed various holes on carb with cleaner (after dissassembling and removing gaskets/o-rings, etc., slow and high speed screw) Looked pretty good all said and done.

Re-assembled, without performing pop off test, or adjusting the needle lever thing at all, and without a rebuild kit.

Cranked starter for a while, main filter fills with gas, no start.

Checked spark, check.

Turned over without plugs in, no visible sign of fuel entering the cyclinders, only puffs of air.

If i spray some carb cleaner down the flame arrestor it will crank up for a second.

Any ideas on how to figure out why no fuel is getting to the cylinders.

Should I break the carb down again and redo it all?

Thanks,
Peter

Sounds like maybe you got one of of your fuel lines swapped. Check to make sure all your lines are put back in the correct place.

Thats possible, or your battery aint "charged" enuf. Had same prob w/ my boat, jumped the battery, and whamm..fired up.

thanks for the responses.

Quite sure the fuel lines are back in the right place, lower input on carb is coming from the primary filter.

I took the carb off again, opened it up, the pump part was quite full of fuel. The other side, the regulator side, also seemed to have some fuel in it. I did discover the lever above the spring was not pressed in all the way, I thought awesome fixed! Put er all back together, but same problem.

The battery is definately on the week side now. How could it be battery related, if it is getting spark, and it is turning over well? Just curious.

I didn't clean or take out any "jets" when i did all this, just the needle, and the high and low speed screws. Should I have dug further?

Thanks again.

Can I take the flame arrestor off and look down into the carb and see what is going on (if anything) when I turn it over. i.e. see if any fuel is being shot into the intake manifold?

The manual says never to do that.

not sure if this yr/mdl had the excellerator pump, but being a 97, with single "40I" carb, which after look'n, it doesnt. Make sure the LSA=1, HSA=1-1/2.

SInce in your post, that you mentioned, the "tang" wasnt touch'n diaphram (rip nipple"), sounds like, you then tweeked it, and if thats the case, you just screwed up the pop-off psi...

Shop Manual says LSA should be 1 3/4, which is what I set it to. Doesn't say for the HSA, which reading here says shoudlnt be messed with, but I did, so I just backed it out "a little".

But don't think HSA would effect starting since it doesn't kick in until higher in the throttle range?

I didn't adjust the tang, the pivot arm wasn't all the way seated on the non screwed down side, making the tang higher. I just set the pivot arm in correctly, which leveled out the tang, as it should be.

Cool....found those settings, from "reputable" website, so...

I shouldn't have touched the HSA, reading further, even though the guide I was using did remove it.

So, now I can't start, and once it does start I'll have to worry about that.. bummer.
