Hi. My name is Scott Radach and I live in the Texas Panhandle. I just joined and was hoping someone could help me out.

The two beeps (normal) are not being made when the safety lanyard is being attached. Battery is fully charged. I have checked the fuses in the front compartment. I have taken the casing off from the steering and all connections look good. I have removed the plastic casing from the under side of the hood and all connections look good. I have checked the fuse in the water proof battery cable box and it looks okay. I have contacted the solenoid and the engine turns over, but will not start. What else can I check?

Possibilities:
Bad lanyard (not sure why)
Another fuse or junction box/connection I missed
Electronic Part

Can I by-pass this to start the engine? I would like to winterize the machine and need to ensure most of the water is out.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Scott

Post?....

Sounds like your post is either dirty or needs replacing.

You can not bypass the DESS system. It is a security feature that keeps them from being stolen. Look at the post. There is a top button and a metal ring around the post, just below the top. This post is magnetic and retrieves the programmed information from the lanyard cap, which holds information in RAM and when connected, allows the mpem to send a signal for starting.

In my opinion, it sounds like the post is bad. They normally last ten years or more but if you ride a lot in salt water, it may be shot.

I've posted a thread on this subject a year or so ago. You may try using the search engine for "DESS testing"......or words to that effect.

You can also try pushing the start/stop 5 times, with the lanyard cap off. You should hear one long and one short. Then, put the lanyard cap on. Then, push the start/stop and count the beeps. Come back to repost your results. This is the advanced diagnostic mode.

You can order a new post through our parts link above on the right. They are less than $100 and you can do it yourself...........
