I bought a box of NGK DCP-R8E's and the caps don't unscrew (Broke two plugs trying). Is there a special part number I need to be aware of or is this the new standard for NGK? I bought the Champion cross over RA6HC plugs. From what I can tell there isn't a difference other than caps unscrew, anyone else running/ran these in their boat?

Sounds like you bought the wrong plug type (solid terminal). You can tell if the cap is removable as you'd see threads on the open end of the tip.

Go get the right plugs and you should be good to go.

Thanks, I feel a little stupid and more educated at the same time LOL. Got the 4339's ordered and will swap them out. The guy at Advance Auto told me that they (NGK) didn't make them removable any more. I should have known he didn't know what he was talking about after he also tried and failed to remove the cap. Thanks, for the replies...

The guy at the auto parts store sure wasn't very knowledgeable about spark plugs , there are millions of machines out there that take plugs with a removeable top and lots of them take the DCPR8E. I found over the years the NGK plugs are the only ones that give long lasting performance on powersports machines, I usually buy them at a powersports seller as they have the right ones.

Yes that is what I told the guy, NGK was going to loose a lot of money if that is the case "hard to find good help anymore". Next time I will do a little more leg work on the front and like you said go to a powersports seller and not try to buy boat parts at an automotive store. I'm learning day by day....

that's why most of us are in here:)

Helped me out! I've worked extensively on cars and small engines but didn't know the caps were removable. I have the right plugs... now to go unscrew them lol.

Dude, I am a huge gear head. The first spark plug change for me had me scratching my head why the coil would not go back into place. Only then did I actually look at a plug I pulled out. I thought I had the wrong plugs but the part number was right. Figured it out, learned something new.

That is EXACTLY what happened to me.
