I committed the first cardinal sin...I bought a '97 Sea Doo Challenger 1800 at auction w/o water testing it. Been sitting on a lift for quite a while getting crusty. Said it won't start. Gonna inspect what I bought today. Hopefully it goes well. Wish me luck!

Any guidance re: how to approach getting engines started after they were sitting for a long time or other things to check out before trying to run the boat is greatly appreciated

You are on the right path. Have a good battery. Do NOT have a charger or jump box on the battery and crank the engines. It normally smokes the MPEM (Brain) and they are not cheap.

Pull plugs, a few squirts of oil. Put a towel over the holes b4 you crank it as the crank seal may be bad and the cylinders could be full of oil.

See if there is oil in the tank

Then crank it. If it turns over well, put the plugs in and and see if it starts.

I will delete the other post for you.

agree with coastie,,, you might want to just bring a tow boat along, tow it to your ramp, put it on a trailer then give proper due diligence in the garage. Just a thought, I always prefer to take my time on those things.
