We bought this Seadoo on Ebay last week. We took it out on the lake and it seemed to run fine. For about 30 minutes. Then it lost power and shut down. I've worked on it this week - drained old gas - changed spark plugs - hooked up a fresh water flush and ran it. It seemed to be running fine. Took it back to the lake yesterday. It ran for 30 minutes. And did the same thing. The engine seemed hot (compared to the other skii we were running). The alarm went off (tho that's been a bit of a problem in itself).

We're new to this whole thing and would much appreciate any advice.

It sounds like you have a slight blockage in your cooling system somewhere. I would start with the main water inlet hose and go from there.

The impeller housing has a fitting that supplies water to the cooling system. If that fitting is cracked or damaged, some water could be leaking and your cooling system will not get enough water to keep the engine cool during extended use. That is where I would start. You can see the main water inlet hose extending from the front underside of the exhaust back to the hull where the jet pump bolts on. The fitting will be one of the 3 black nozzles that go through the hull. The 2 on the top are the bailer hose fittings, the one on the left about 10:00 o'clock is the main water inlet fitting. I've attached a picture of the cooling system for the 717 engine. (Identified by the pressure zone on the diagram)

Good luck. I know those plastic fittings can be problematic, I've had the bad luck of having 2 broken in the last week. (One by dealer, and one by me). I have a stainless steel one now.
