Hi,

I'm considering the purchase of a Challenger 180 and have never owned a boat before. I don't have a truck to trailer it so I plan to just keep it docked at a local marina during the season. My question is: I've heard that it is bad for the seals to keep a jet boat in the water all of the time. Is this true? If so, it would obviously mean that I should find a non-jet boat to purchase.

Thanks in advance for everyone's help.

Your correct.

Yes, you are correct. The jet engines aren't really designed to remain in the water, due to the seals and electroylsis from the battery, that you'd have to maintain for the bilge pump.

For that matter, in marinas, there is a way they set the boats up because of electrolysis. The boats beside you will have an effect on your hull and motors integrity due to the underwater electrical current. Sodium chloride (salt) is an excellent conductor of electricity.

Thanks for the reply.

So it sounds to me like the Sea Doo would probably not be a good choice for me. That's too bad.I really like the thoughts of the jet boat vs an I/O with prop etc here on the rivers in Pittsburgh.

you could see if any of the marinas offer a dry dock or a lift to keep the boat on. might be expensive though..

Jet drive....

Yeah, it is. But if you ever drive a jet boat, you'll never go back to the standard outboard or I/O.

These things are awesome in performance, looks, fuel economy, and reliability.

But hey, I'm on the right wing side of issue. I'm Seadoo and jet drive hands down. So my opinion my be a bit biased.
