I rode my first jet ski in May of this year (I'm 51) and I'm hooked! I bought a 2000 Sea Doo LRV and we love it. Unfortunately, I was pulling the tube on Saturday and something went "clunk". I stopped, shut down, did a quick inspection and fired it up (it started normally). I found that it wouldn't go faster than 6-8 MPH. The engine ran normally but even when tached to 4-5K RPM it wouldn't go faster than 6-8 MPH. I was able to run it the 3 or so miles to the ramp and get it out of the water. The dealer is telling me that it might be some sort of ring in the drive train? Thoughts?

Welcome to the forum. Not sure what That noise could have been. Were you in shallow water when you heard the clunk? So it's reving out, but not gaining speed? That would be cavatition. Presuming you have it on the trailer, take a look at the intake grate for the jet pump to see if there is anything blocking it. Gat a flashlight and look at the impellar from both directions. Seem if it's intact or has any debris blocking it. Post any follow up questions to this in the 2-stroke PWC section of the forum.
