Hello all,

I just purchase two 96 Seadoo XP's 787 they have been sitting for about 2 years but are in very nice shape. I really don't know much if anything about PWC's but am mechanically inclided. So here is what I have

I opend the engine bay and everything seems to be intact, the dry boxes on both skis where the starter relay and coils are were both full to the top with water. So I started with one ski and replaced the starter relay and the battery. When I hit the start button the gauges flash and I get a very faint click and nothing else. So where do I go from here?

Thank You

Wade

congrats on purchases...with those boxes full of water, i'd take the plugs out, ground the wires to post, and hit start button again, if nuth'n, then "jump" the relay, see if it turns, if it dont, then starter problem.
Reason I say pull plugs, cuz w/ water in boxes, there's probably water in motors, too.
You re-check the connections/wires at relay, coil..make sure not corroded, also the 15amp fuse in there...?
1-mo thing...before jump'n relay, remove the grey shield (pto cover) and turn it counterclockwise, with plugs out, make sure motor spins "smooth", if it dont turn, then either, motor locked up, or pump assy bearings are frozed..

Ok, pulled the plugs and spun the engine by hand, no water came out. There was a grinding noise coming from under the ski but there is mud around the impeller so that I probably what is causing that.

I jumped the starter relay and the engine spun with no problem

SO now what

check the red cables from battery to relay, and relay to starter, before you throw money at relay. Maybe broke/corroded at terminal rings, and also check grounds at each ends and connections.
You said, you heard a click, so tells me the powers there at relay, just not transfer'n to starter, so, check the above mentioned, alnd all is good, then invest in relay...

I traced down the click, it is a very faint click and it is coming from a grey box in the front of the ski

one more thing, I only have one "key" or whatever it is called, the thing that you put on your wrist and plugs onto the terminal below the handlebars. Is that specific for each ski becuase the one I am using did not come with this ski

Wade

That could be the problem, if not, THEE problem. Those landyards are programmed for each ski. When you replace the landyard, you need to have the dealer, program the new one, to read the MPEM, for the "circuit" to be complete...have it programmed, then go from there.

just my 2.5 cents. You may also want to do a compression check, rebuild the carbs, change fuel filters, clean tank before taking it out. Sitting for two years, and if not stored correctly, you can bet the fuel sitting in those carbs is not a good thing.

also with the grinding noise in the pump you should clean that out and inspect the wear ring and impeller for damage. Also make sure there is not mud in the water lines coming up from the pump. If it gets blocked you will for sure overheat and... well you get the point :)
