New wear rings blown motor????

So the last time I had my seadoo out I experienced a lot of cavitation and the bolts on my exhaust had backed out. Upon realizing what was going on I immediately re-tightened the bolts and headed back to shore. I inspected the wear rings and they were shot. So I took apart the pumps and replaced the wear rings as well as re-installed the exhaust using the proper thread lock and then tried to start. The port side motor was sluggish like my battery was dying and wouldn't start. The other motor acted like it was going to start until the loud clank and now it is locked up. I can even turn the flywheel a full rotation. I pulled the head and the pistons seem fine. WHAT COULD I HAVE DONE to create this. Is it possible that there is just something wrong with the pumps when I rebuilt them????

It's possible the new wear rings are coming into direct contact with the impeller edges and binding the pto, did you check clearances when you installed the new rings and put the impeller's back in the pumps?

I always check clearances with a feeler gauge first when I assemble the pump, and check them again once the pump is mounted with four mounting points on the pump things can get put into a bind.

Thanks I am going to pull the pumps and see if I can get the PTO to spin. I am afraid it is something in the motor but I hope not I will post an update thanks for the help

Before you pull the entire pump assembly off just remove the reverse gate and nozzle so you can see the impeller and wear wing and take some measurements for clearances. If it's not in a bind there back the wing nuts off the plastic pto covers and make sure the spark plugs are out of the motors. You should be able to rotate the pto / driveshaft either way at that point.

I've seen aftermarket wear rings and impellers that needed to cut a groove into the new ring before everything spins free, that could be your issue depending on what was used.

When you had the pumps back together and ready to install back on the boat when you replaced the wear rings was everything turning free? If the thrust washer on the bottom of the impeller shaft isn't right it can bind up on the shaft in a real hurry, I like to put those back together vertically.
