New wear ring rubbing!

2001 14.5' Challenger with twin 717s/140mm pumps. I replaced the wear rings today. After putting the impeller back in, it doesn't turn free, it rubs the new ring during parts of its rotation. All blades seem to rub and are generally very close. It's the original OEM impeller.

Is that a concern? I think the pump housing may be slightly oval, the impeller seems to be turning evenly.

Will it just seat and wear down the high spots after running a while leaving a good tight fit? Or do I have a problem?

If it's just kissing the ring a little, and turns easy... just run it, and it will clearance itself.
 
thanks, good Dr. When I picked them up, the installer had sanded the high spots anyway so that they turned freely. I took it out on the water and it runs much better! No need to do the carbon seal and remove the pumps again, as I'd feared, to tame the cavitation. I'll hold that for a winter project, along with possible upgrade to Solas or Skat-trak impellers.
