Hi all, I am brand new to the world of seadoo/pwc ownership. I've used PWC in the past but never owned or maintained one. I am car savvy so turning a wrench does not scare me, however, this isn't a car so I don't want to create more issues for myself either..

I purchased a 1998 GTX Limited 951 w/ carbs from a friend of mine, 314 hours, approx 14 on the last rebuild. Fires up first try and runs and drives top notch less a leaky water regular valve which I have on order. The bumpers along the body have seen better days and have some chunks out of them but are fully intact. There are a few spider cracks in the gel coat on the rear corners and front bumper just above the bumpers.. it has definitely seen some impacts but it does not looks terrble... is this normal? Do these develop cracks easily? Things I should repair or signs I should look out for? The rest of the body is in very good shape and has virtually no fade, damage or wear. My friend purchased it last year in this condition.

What is there to know about maintaining the 951.. any issues with the oil feeder or should I convert to mix? What should I look out for, trouble areas of the motor or assembly, keeping it in tune.. etc. Given the time of year I likely won't be using it until May so I will be winterizing soon anyway.

I'm not looking for a complete answer but please bestow some knowledge upon this rook :)

The best thing you can do if not already done are:
1. Make sure it is running a API-TC full synthetic oil.
2. Change the small oil lines from the oil pump to the intake manifold and oil filter.
3. Change the jet pump oil.
4. Make sure the fuel lines are black not gray.

when something hits fiberglass, it bends. The gelcote does not bend, and produces the spider cracks you see. I wouldn't worry too much.
