97 XP seadoo

New Member
Hi, I have a 1997 Seadoo XP and i am having trouble with it starting. When i put the key in it doesnt make the 2 beeping noises that it should, and when i push start it does nothing , except the gauges work. But sometimes when its not in the water it will start up a few times and then after that it will stop working again. I changed the 15 fuse in the electrical box and the battery is charged. Please any help would be great.
Thanks Mat.

P.S. It looks like my exhaust pipe has a water leak, could this cause a short somewhere?

post going bad?

if you don't get the 2 beeps, it won't start(unless your beeper is bad, but you should see the gauges come to life anyway). could be that your not pressing it on the post well enough or your post is going bad, they do fail that way.

your leak won't cause a short, but it may ruin your motor by getting water in the motor.

Welcome to the seadoo forum Matt. I would check the battery connections on both ends of the wires Positive+ and Negative-. The ends should be clean and making a good connection. Be sure the battery is not just charged up, but has all it's cells active. If it is from last year it is possible it might have a bad cell or 2 even it shows 12 volts charged. Have it LOAD tested at like Auto Zone for free. If it has lost a cell or 2 it won't have enough amps to start the engine. Clean the DESS post and cap also, so it is making a good connection too. The Beeper might be bad too not beeping when it should. Sometimes you can feel it vibrate and not beep. If this is the case, you need to replace it so you can hear it at start up and in case it over heats it will sound. Check the "parts" link at the top of the page or a cheap solution might be radio shack in a pinch, but it might not fit properly.

Give the seadoo a look over and let us know if we can help out any more. We're here for you.
