New to Jet Boats - Weeds

Okay, so I recently purchased a 96 Speedster and everything was going great on the water. Then all of a sudden my boat started beeping nonstop like an alarm and I lost moving power; however, the motors were still on. I turned everything off and paddled to shore... I put the boat back on the trailer and found that my boat looked like a pasta maker with weeds hanging out of the intakes... Being new to boating, I pulled all of the weeds out that were visible and drove home (scared I ruined the boat).

What are the next steps to make sure I clean everything out and the impeller or pump isn't screwed up or still have weeds internally stuck.

At this point, I am nervous to even start the boat up with a water hose attached fearing that I could cause more damage....

Any advice is appreciated.

Anybody?

What are the next steps to make sure I clean everything out and the impeller or pump isn't screwed up or still have weeds internally stuck?

Should I just hook up a water hose and start it up??

Is it normal for the boat to have a constant beep when weeds get stuck in the intake and lose power?

I would shine a flashlight up into the pump and make sure the impeller and wear ring still look good. If the impeller or wear ring are damaged, it won't keep the boat from running but it may cause cavitation issues.

Definitely flush the boat with the hose to help get everything out.

I am not as familiar with the 96+ electronics, but on my 94 and 95 skis, a constant beep is an overheat warning. I believe it is the same for your boat. Weeds probably plugged up the pump and kept water from getting to the motors. Hopefully it didn't do any damage.

You did everything right. You are fine. Give the intake grate a quick look and then go ride.
Next time just anchor up and jump into the water and pull out the weeds and you will be fine. Better yet don’t boat where there are weeds.
