Hello all, I am new to the jet boating world and have run into my first issue with my new to me 2007 Challenger 230 se. My question is this, I have an ecu that all of a sudden would not recognize the dess key and give me the two beeps letting me know she was ready to start. The boat to this point has performed very well but I recently started getting the usual two beeps on the port motor and a long single beep on the starboard engine. It was running fine even with the beeping but the last time out after three hours of running we shut down for a couple of hours and when I attempted to start again the start switch for the starboard engine did nothing. I think I understand that the long beep means the dess key is not communicating with the ecu. After checking all the wiring and doing the checks for the dess post and the start switch I swapped the ecu's and the problem move to the port engine. Knowing the issue lies in the ecu I am wondering if it is possible that the ecu has lost it's memory and needs to be re programmed or is it just done and time for a new ecu? If it is an ecu hardware failure are they repairable, does anyone have a used ecu for sale? Thanks in advance for your knowledge, opinions and help.

Man, I think you did a fantastic job of troubleshooting and giving a good write up. I concur with the diagnoses. Fixing it maybe the expensive bit:

1) Buy candoo with the four license setup as you are going to loose two licenses right away for the two different MCUs. See if you can talk to that MCU and reprogram the key back into it.

2) If not you may have to buy an other MCU and program that one.

Candoo showed up in the mail today

Thanks for the reply, candoo arrived today but unfortunately I am in the market for an ECU. Very impressed with all the information and capabilities that little candoo box provides for troubleshooting. Question: with all the ecu's out there am I just looking to match up the 5WP22454 number for what I need? Thanks again for the help!

New ecu in and going

I found an ecu on the Ebay the other day. I was able to pick it up for 575 shipped so with the $435.00 on the candoo pro and another key I am in just over a grand. I suppose a dealer would have charged me around $1500 for parts and labor to do the same job, so I feel I am way ahead of the game right off the bat. I tend to use my boats often, loaded with anything from kids and tubes to a couple guys and a bunch of rods. I live on the Black river here in South Carolina and I can be from the door to the ocean in 20 minutes or so and I do use the boat in open water. Having this candoo pro not only gives me the ability to make repairs but also to monitor live data and hopefully be able to see issues before they evolve into major events. xintersecty, thanks for the heads up on candoo, it was crutial

So glad to have an other seadoo friend from SC. I boat on Lake Keowee and it's been a dream to do the intercoastal waterway with my boat. I check on g map and they suck at labeling rivers. I see your off the pee dee river. That has to be awesome. I am still adding little touches to get my boat ready for open water. I still would like to get a GPS/chart plotter that fits well in my cockpit area.

I am so glad that candoo with critical in getting things running. Just curious does your boat use up two licenses for each ECU?

On my 210 Challenger, the CanDoo only used one license for the two engines. In other words, I have a 2003 XP and my boat used, w/ 2 licenses left.

2 used for mine

On my boat it took two licences for the two ecu's. Not really sure how you could get two different ecu's on one license, does it give you information and abilities to look at both motors? It's the only seadoo craft I own so it didn't really concern me too much but glad it worked out for you! xintersecty, I just installed a garmin 441s 4" gps/sonar unit and love it. It is a few years old, came with the boat and the owner didn't know how to install it. I bought the boat from a guy in my neighborhood. It sat at a storage area and the interior was a bit sun trashed, not too bad. Once I hooked up the candoo I learned it has 104hrs on it! Paid 13,150 with everything so I am not too upset about the grand I had to drop on the computer and the candoo. If you ever want to run in the open water let me know, we will set up a trip!

Not sure. I know the 2010+ Challenger 210s used a different (Bosch?) ECU that handled engine sync and a lot of other "fly-by-wire" functions. Here is my VinUsed screen:

Good to know about the licenses. I have two skis and one boat. Just glad the boat only has one ECU and one engine.
