Got a replacement motor for my ski and when I was putting it back together the stator looked bad in shape so I gave it a good clean. But since it worked on the last motor I left it there, went ahead and tried to start the engine and it wanted to start but didn't then I just stopped trying and now it just clicks, battery has 13v and terminals are clean.
Motor looks like it has a leak from the exhaust side on the circle white plug??

thanks

Check the battery under load, ie when trying to start the ski, if the voltage is below 11v. charge or replace the battery. If the battery is good jump across the two main terminals of the solenoid, it the starter turns the motor over replace the solenoid.

A stator from a 787 will not work in a 717 (your ski).

I'm not sure what you mean by the circle white plug, can you take a picture? Or ID it from this:

would a bad stator cause the solenoid to go bad?
got it
click on here and look at the first picture right under the oil line feed nipple there is a circle plug looking thing O that's where mine seems to be leaking from by what I can feel.

That's a fixed plug , the rotary shaft bearing is behind there , it should never be removed . If yours is leaking and it's a new engine then there is a problem .

Britrick, thanks, I honestly didn't know what it was for, now I know.

Since it's a reman motor you need to call the remanufacturer and see what they can do about it. They obviously didn't pressure test the motor.

unfortunately its the fixed plug and the stator was damaged so those are my 2 problems.

Unfortunately it looks like you need to pull the motor take it to a machine shop and see if they can weld the block, but I'm afraid they're going to need to remove the rotary shaft and the bearing to they don't overheat the bearing.

If you don't mind be asking how did you damage the block?

I will check and see.
I didnt touch that at all but in that pic i had just cleaned around it.

We probably need to get someone who actually rebuilds these to take a look, I have installed a rebuilt engine but never actually rebuilt one. Let me get a buddy to take a look at this thread.

You aren't supposed to remove the plug... but if it's leaking... it could have been knocked loose from someone putting in a new bearing.

At this point... to do it right... it needs to come out, and be properly cleaned. (including the case) Then... it can be re-installed (if not damaged) using green thread locker.

Thanks to both for the help, I never touched that plug since I had no clue what it was, talking to the seller as we speak.
For that plug to be removed the shaft needs to be removed?

Fixed the leak now i changed the stator and it just click but if i jump the wires it turns over normal.
