Hi Everybody, i just wanted to introduce myself. I do not own a seadoo yet but i am looking right now for my first. I am looking at a new 2009 Seadoo speedster 150 with a 215 HP motor. I just had a couple of questions. I am buying this for my wife, daughter and myself. I want this for tubing, kneeboarding and to just rip around the lake. Why did they quite making the 215 HP engine in 2010,was there a problem with this engine?. I do not want to spend more money on the challenger so do you think this boat is right for me. Thanks in advance, I hope to have my new boat by middle of April.

The 4-tec motors are pretty much the same design since they first came out, doesn't matter if it is 155hp, 215, or 255hp the motors are the same in design and mechanic's. excluding the 155hp the 215 and 255 difference is the supercharger, the 255 is a bit larger and a different blower wheel and also a different external larger intercooler to handle the higher hp. I don't know why they only offer the 255 and 155 maybe it sounds better for advertising, being 100 hp difference between them, maybe they just wanted the most available horsepower in there 150 speedster, there is nothing wrong with the 215. On the flip side with the 215 and 255 you will have extra time and money with rebuild of the supercharger. If the 150 speedster suits your needs than go for it. I did have the 06 sportster 150 before I traded it in for the challenger, for me after having the taste of the jet boat world I wanted something with more room and would still fit in my garage, the only thing I can say is if you ever plane on bringing like more than 4 people, let's say like 6 or 7 you all would be able to spend the whole day on a challenger.

3 people + gear on a 14ft boat isn't every comforable imo, and pretty much the max for that boat. I find that most of the fun of I have on my boat is when I take people out on it. So as long as you never plan to take anyone out with you the speedster will be fine. We traded our speedster in for a challenger after half a season, because I just wasn't big enough. Just my .02 Cents

Thanks for the info.I was actually reading some posts and have seen that the superchargers need a lot of maintenance. i was originally looking at aPWC which is the GTI SE. The wife wanted me to look at the speedster 150. I think i might go back to the original plan of a PWC. They are good on fuel not like the speedster. They will also pull a tube for less money and operating costs. I still have a lot to think about.

If the maintenance costs of owning a boat is the deal breaker you might want to look for a different hobby. Plus both the speedster 150 and GTI SE have the Rotex 4-tec engine, and operating costs will be pretty simliar.

I to wanted something nice with out the big $. I purchased a 150 speedster new w/ the 155 hp. and let me tell you this is plenty. I use it to play, towables and the wife pulls me on my wakeboard... with my two daughters on board. No supercharger means no high maintenance on regular 87 octane gas.. I had two yamaha ski's but they are not safe for the kids....
Traded up and still happy (good beginner boat).
When the kids get older, maybe then I'll get a larger seadoo:)

The nite driving of the boat is why I went from PWC, I enjoy them both so I kept the old 3 seater for the kids as it is hard to tip, the polaris was always on the side and towing to shore for the get it running routine.

I went and purchased a new 2009 seadoo GTI SE. The PWC suits my needs for right now without investing so much in the boat. Maybe i will upgrade in a year or two. Thanks for all your help. I will start posting in the PWC section and leave you guys alone.
