Hey everyone! I just bought my first boat, 2001 challenger with twin 717 rotax engines. All I have done so far is install depth finder, auto bilge pump and did the compression test, all cylinders came in at exactly 140psi. I need to know what kind of maintenance and what things I need to look for and test, as I want my boating experience to be a great one! Thanks in advance everyone.

Welcome,

Where in PA are you?

Maintenance isn't hard. Basically, during the year, keep it clean, and make sure you check the oil tank once in a while. (API-TC only)

When you put it away for the winter... you will want to service the oil system. Check the small oil injection hoses, and replace the filter. (about every other year) Also... you will want to replace the oil in the jet pumps.

Most of what you need to know is in the owners manual, and it can be downloaded for free at Seadoo's website.

Thank you Dr Honda! I'm from Lancaster, but do all my boating in Maryland at the North East River. I've had a few issues with the boat so far but nothing I couldn't fix. Leaking exhaust boots and blown oil line. I just want to be sure I'm doing things properly so I can avoid any major malfunctions.

I have the same boat, same year! Welcome to the forum. And I live in MD, Washington area. I do most of my boating on the Potomac, although I've been to the Chesepeake. The Challenger's been an adventure to own, had it for 3 years. There's always something to fiddle with.

Since you installed a depth finder, any tips? Where did you mount the transducer? Where did you connect power? Did you route the transducer cable through the pump shoe (through the threaded hole that the speedometer cable runs through on one side), or through the hull?

Follow racereddies hawk eye install in the how to section. My only difference was I ran power with a toggle switch so I can turn it on and off manually. Mine is a hawkeye by the way.
